Wolf Minerals (ASX:WLF, LON:WLFE) has been recommended for ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management systems at the Hemerdon tungsten mine development near Plymouth.
Russell Clark, Wolf’s managing director, said it was unusual to have certification in place prior to an operation commencing, but an environmental management system was a condition of the Environment Agency's permit for the project and had to be in place prior to the commencement of processing tungsten ore.
"The [ISO 14001] certification is a stamp of approval that we have the necessary systems and processes in place to manage and monitor our environmental performance and it will provide our local communities and other stakeholders the comfort that we are managing the environment in which we work to the highest standards," he said.
Hemerdon is to start production in autumn this year and will be the UK’s first significant new mine for 40 years.
